Critical Reading and Writing for Postgraduates by Mike Wallace & Alison Wray

Critical Reading and Writing for Postgraduates: a good book, although a lot of the tips are fairly basic. I’d say if you’re making the transition from undergrad to postgrad, or you’re starting a postgraduate degree after a break in studying, this book is probably really helpful.

I’ve been writing postgraduate research for a few years now, and I’ve been reading it for longer than that; I’d say that reading papers in your field is one of the best ways to get an idea of what your own papers should look like. However, this book does have some handy little boxes and diagrams, as well as some checklists to make sure you’re not missing anything out when you’re writing your essays.

However, don’t do what I did and use reading it as an excuse to not get your actual essay writing done…
